SALEM — A second-degree assault investigation by the Salem Police Department has led to the issuance of an arrest warrant after a road rage incident escalated into violence at the Icenter.
Officer Benoit responded to the scene at approximately 4:56 p.m. on Sept. 13 following a report of an assault.
The investigation revealed that the confrontation stemmed from an earlier road rage incident on Route 93 involving two vehicles.
According to the police, one of the drivers recognized the other while at the Icenter and an argument broke out.
The dispute turned physical when one of the drivers allegedly used a hockey stick to assault the other, causing him to fall and hit his head against a metal pole.
The victim, a male whose identity has not been released, was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with serious bodily injuries.
Officer Benoit, after a detailed investigation, has obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect in connection with the assault.
Further details about the suspect have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.
