Police seize drugs, weapons in Waterbury traffic stops

WATERBURY — Two men face multiple charges after police seized drugs and a loaded firearm during traffic stops on Oct. 3, 2024.

The Waterbury Police Department’s Gang Task Force, Auto Theft Task Force, and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force conducted the operation in response to narcotics activity and quality of life issues.

Officers stopped a BMW X3 and a 2020 Mercedes AMG GT near 1387 Watertown Avenue.

The BMW driver, Demetrius Hunter, 31, of Waterbury, had active warrants and was found with heroin/fentanyl, police said.

Hunter’s criminal record includes narcotics offenses, firearms charges, first-degree assault, and robbery convictions.

Malik Pete, 27, of Waterbury, driving the Mercedes, is on parole with previous felony narcotics convictions.

Officers discovered heroin/fentanyl, cocaine, and a loaded 9mm Glock 17 with a fully automatic switch and high-capacity magazine in his vehicle.

Police seized 216 bags of heroin/fentanyl, 32.4 grams of raw heroin, 13 grams of cocaine, 35 controlled substance pills, and the loaded firearm.

Hunter faces charges of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and motor vehicle violations.

Pete’s charges include possession with intent to sell narcotics, weapons offenses, and motor vehicle violations.

Both men are in custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
