BRISTOL — One tobacco retailer was cited for selling to minors during compliance checks conducted by local and state authorities in Bristol on Oct. 6.
The Bristol Police Narcotic Enforcement Team and the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program performed unannounced inspections at several establishments using underage undercover agents.
Smoke Hive at 795 King Street was found non-compliant after selling to an underage agent.
Clerk Anmarie Michaels, 20, was charged with sale of electronic nicotine system or vapor product to minors.
Five other retailers passed the compliance checks:
– Quick Stop, 916 Stafford Avenue
– Smoking Ape, 815 Farmington Avenue
– Smoking Ape, 74 Farmington Avenue
– Haze Smoke Shop, 274 Middle Street
– Lite it up Smoke shop, 350 Lake Avenue
The inspections followed reports in October that several tobacco retailers in Bristol were illegally selling tobacco, vapes and cannabis to underage customers.
Bristol police said they are committed to combating illegal tobacco sales to minors and encourage the public to report any related concerns.
