Taunton police seek help identifying ATV riders who vandalized historic Taunton Green

TAUNTON — The Taunton Police Department is calling on the public to assist in identifying the individuals responsible for vandalizing the historic Taunton Green on Saturday evening.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Oct. 5, a group of individuals riding two and four-wheeled ATVs caused extensive damage to the manicured lawn of the landmark by performing “donuts” in several areas.

The city’s Parks, Recreation and Public Grounds Department, along with Mayor Shaunna O’Connell’s office, are working closely with the police to address the significant destruction caused to this cherished community space.

The Taunton Green is not only a historic site but also a popular locale for residents, maintained through significant yearly investments to ensure it can be enjoyed by everyone.

The act of vandalism has sparked a call for community members to express their outrage and aid in the investigation.

Authorities urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activities around the Taunton Green or possesses information that could lead to the identification of the culprits to contact the Taunton Police Department.
