READING — A Lawrence man was arrested and charged with drug possession following a routine traffic stop by the Reading Police Department on Saturday night.

Jose Monge, 41, was charged with distribution or possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug, a lights violation, and having no inspection sticker on his vehicle.

The incident occurred on Oct. 5, at approximately 9:13 p.m., when Reading Police, patrolling near Haverhill Street and Timberneck Drive, spotted a gray Honda Accord traveling without headlights.

After initiating a traffic stop, officers reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A search of Monge’s car led to the discovery of roughly 0.411 pounds of marijuana, along with a scale and a box of small sandwich bags, items commonly associated with the intent to distribute narcotics.

Additionally, Monge was found to be carrying about $550 in cash.

Monge was taken into custody without incident and is scheduled for arraignment in Woburn District Court on Monday, Oct. 7.
