MERRIMACK — A local man with a history of driving offenses was arrested on outstanding warrants after leading police on two high-speed chases, the Merrimack Police Department reported.
Matthew Caruso, 28, was taken into custody on Oct. 5 at the Extended Stay America hotel without incident.
Officers executed an arrest warrant stemming from two separate incidents in late September and early October, where Caruso allegedly fled from police at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The first pursuit occurred on Sept. 23, when officers attempted a traffic stop.
Caruso, identified by the pursuing officer, did not comply and sped away.
A records check revealed Caruso’s status as a Habitual Offender.
On Oct. 3, the same officer spotted Caruso driving the vehicle with mismatched plates.
Caruso again evaded police at high speeds.
Given his known residence at a local hotel, authorities decided to delay apprehension to ensure public safety.
Caruso faces two Class B Felony charges for operating as a Habitual Offender, two Class A Misdemeanor charges for disobeying a police officer, and Violation level offenses for reckless operation and misuse of plates.
He also has outstanding warrants in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
After refusing bail services, Caruso is held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections.
He is scheduled for a court appearance on Oct. 7 at the 9th Circuit Merrimack District Court.
