Hampton police detain student after social media threat to high school

HAMPTON — Hampton Police Department is investigating a social media threat made against Winnacunnet High School, which led to the swift detention of a student on Thursday, Oct. 3.

At around 12:15 p.m., the police were alerted by the FBI National Threat Center of a potential safety threat posed to the school via a social media post.

The School Resource Officer at Winnacunnet High School, alongside Hampton Police patrol units, responded immediately to the situation.

Through the information in the social media post, the police were able to identify and locate the source, a current student of Winnacunnet High School, who was quickly detained.

Further investigation confirmed that no weapons were present, and there was no immediate danger to students or staff.

The student was detained by police within 5 minutes of the dispatch notification.”

The identity of the student, a minor, is not being disclosed.

The incident is currently being regarded as isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.

The Hampton Police Department was supported in their response by the FBI National Threat Center.

The investigation remains active with limited details being released.
