SHELTON — A Shelton man was arrested on narcotics charges after police investigated a fatal overdose earlier this month, authorities said.

The Shelton Police Department responded to a call in September about a man in his 30s who had fatally overdosed.

During the investigation, 30-year-old Avery Campbell was identified as the individual distributing narcotics, police said.

Detectives with the Shelton Police, along with undercover Task Force Officers, arranged a controlled purchase of illegal narcotics from Campbell.

The meeting was set to take place at the Valero Gas Station on Howe Avenue.

When Campbell arrived to conduct the sale, law enforcement officials attempted to apprehend him.

Campbell tried to escape on foot, injuring a bystander in the process, according to the police report.

A subsequent search of Campbell’s vehicle uncovered illegal narcotics.

He was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Interfering with Officers.

Campbell was released on bond and is awaiting his court appearance at Derby Superior Court.

The Shelton Police Department expressed gratitude to its Detective Bureau for their dedicated and relentless efforts in the investigation.
