NEWBURY — A Cabot man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on multiple charges, including DUI and drug possession, after being caught with a stolen vehicle and fentanyl on VT Route 302, according to state police.
Arthur Smith, 45, was apprehended after troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle at about 2:16 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Smith in a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Colchester earlier that day.
During the interaction, police determined Smith was operating the vehicle under the influence of drugs.
He was screened and subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Further investigation revealed that Smith was driving with a criminally suspended license and was in possession of suspected fentanyl.
After his arrest, Smith was transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.
He received a citation to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on Oct. 2 at 12:30 p.m. to face charges of DUI-drug, operation without owner’s consent, criminal driving with a suspended license, and possession of fentanyl.
The investigation and arrest were supported by Woodsville Ambulance, CALEX Ambulance, and Lyndonville Police Department.
