EASTON — A head-on collision on Rt. 58 south of Center Road has claimed the lives of two Connecticut residents, police said Monday.
The accident, which occurred on Sept. 28 at 7:39 p.m., involved two vehicles, each with a single occupant.
Easton Police Department, responding to multiple 911 calls, arrived to find one vehicle ablaze and the other severely damaged.
The Easton Fire Department swiftly extinguished the fire, while Easton EMS transported one victim to Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.
Mario Licona, 58, from Bridgeport, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second driver, Florence Mahony, 87, of Redding, was later pronounced dead at the medical center.
The Fairfield Police Crash Investigation Unit is leading the ongoing investigation, with support from Monroe EMS and the Wilton Police Department.
Route 58 was closed for several hours following the accident to facilitate emergency response and preliminary investigation.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collision and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
