Biddeford man found shot dead, Maine State Police investigating homicide

BIDDEFORD — A 46-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds late Friday night in what authorities are investigating as a homicide.

Maine State Police Major Crimes South, alongside local police, responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired on Foss Street at around 10:53 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Gene Dares of Biddeford critically injured.

Despite attempts to administer aid, Dares was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dares’ body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy, which confirmed that the cause of death was gunshot wounds.

The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.

Officials have indicated that there is no specific threat to the public at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing as the Biddeford Police Department works in conjunction with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
