Fairfield police arrest juvenile over non-credible social media threat

1 min read

FAIRFIELD — Fairfield Public Schools on Sept. 13 alerted parts of their community to a potential altercation planned by students during the SeptemberFest at Assumption Church.

The information, sourced from social media, suggested a group of students intended to meet at the event to engage in a fight.

The Fairfield Police Department, working in conjunction with the school district and the FBI’s New Haven Field Office, quickly responded to ensure the safety of students and the community.

The social media threat was deemed non-credible, indicating no immediate danger.

Still, as a precaution, the police increased their presence at SeptemberFest and formulated a plan to monitor the situation.

Investigators from the Fairfield Police School Safety Unit and Detective Bureau worked through the following days to identify the source of the post.

By Sept. 24, they had traced it back to a middle-school student in the Fairfield School District who claimed it was a hoax.

The juvenile has been arrested, and their identity remains confidential due to their age.

The school district is also taking appropriate disciplinary actions.

Chief Robert Kalamaras assured the community that the department took the threat seriously from the onset and acted with diligence to resolve the matter.

He emphasized the importance of school and public spaces being safe environments and warned of the legal and disciplinary repercussions of making or spreading threats of violence.

The Fairfield Police Department encourages parents and guardians to discuss the implications of such actions with their children and to supervise their social media use.
