Scarborough man arrested with stolen firearm at local Walmart

SCARBOROUGH — Scarborough police officers arrested a man Saturday afternoon for possessing a stolen firearm at a local Walmart.

Authorities received a tip around 12:15 p.m. on Sept. 28 that a male, later identified as 27-year-old Shawn Small, was carrying a stolen firearm from a neighboring jurisdiction.

Police located Small inside the store and attempted to detain him, facing resistance before he was ultimately handcuffed.

Upon searching Small, officers found the suspected stolen firearm in his bag.

Small was taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation following his arrest.

Small is facing charges including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, refusing to submit to arrest, and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Additionally, he will be placed on a probation hold.
