Boston traffic stop uncovers drugs, leads to arrest

1 min read

BOSTON — A routine traffic stop by Boston Police Department officers on Friday led to the arrest of a Dorchester man on drug charges after they discovered he was operating a stolen vehicle.

At about 5:29 p.m., officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) pulled over a vehicle with a darkened license plate cover that made it difficult to read the registration.

The stop took place near the intersection of Washington Street and Park Street.

Upon initiating the traffic stop with their cruiser’s lights and sirens, officers were able to read the vehicle’s registration and determined the car was reported stolen.

They approached the driver, Lawrence Chaney, 38, of Dorchester, and asked him to exit the vehicle.

During a search, officers found seventeen plastic bags of crack cocaine inside Chaney’s fanny pack.

Chaney was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs and receiving stolen property.

The suspect is expected to face these charges at his arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
