SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man was arrested Thursday morning on charges including aggravated domestic assault and interference with access to emergency services, following a response by local police to a reported active domestic disturbance.

Springfield Police Department officers, identified as Ofc.

Callahan and Corporal Perkins, arrived at a residence on 32 Valley Street at approximately 9:11 a.m. after receiving a call regarding the incident.

Upon investigation, they determined that Eric L. Chambers had allegedly assaulted a victim and had prevented the person from calling for emergency assistance.

Chambers, who was discovered to be in violation of previously issued conditions of release, was taken into custody at 9:29 a.m. without incident.

He was processed at the Springfield Police Department, where he was fingerprinted, photographed, and issued a criminal citation.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit on Sept. 23 at 12:30 p.m. to respond to the charges.

Following the arrest, Chambers was transported to the Southern State Correction Facility and is being held without bail.

The police department clarified that decisions regarding bail and incarceration are handled by the judicial system, not the police.
