Essex police investigate late-night gunshot by juvenile in Essex Junction

ESSEX JUNCTION — On the night of September 24, Essex Police were called to the scene of a shooting incident that occurred near Main and Church streets.

According to the Essex Police Department, at 11:54 p.m., officers responded to reports of a gunshot fired into the air from a moving vehicle after a verbal altercation.

Witnesses at the scene helped officers to promptly locate and identify the vehicle’s occupants.

The investigation revealed that a juvenile from Milton, aged between 14 and 16, discharged a firearm from the back seat of the vehicle.

The young individual has since been issued a Juvenile Citation and is expected to appear at Chittenden County Family Court on charges of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possession of Firearms by Children, and Disorderly Conduct, according to Vermont state statutes.

Detective Sergeant Dunn has assured the public that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Nonetheless, the investigation remains active and further information is sought.

Detective Corporal Williger is handling the case and is encouraging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
