Townshend church sign damaged in hit-and-run, police seek information

TOWNSHEND — An act of unlawful mischief overnight between Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 has left a local church’s sign severely damaged, and the Vermont State Police – Westminster Barracks are appealing to the public for assistance.

The Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, located at 92 Grafton Road, fell victim to what authorities believe was a vehicle-related incident.

The sign, which now bears the scars of the encounter, was apparently struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled the scene.

Investigators are on the lookout for a dual rear wheel truck, which they suspect is the type of vehicle involved in the destruction.

State troopers are diligently investigating the incident and have requested that anyone with information come forward.

The authorities stress that even seemingly insignificant details could prove vital in the resolution of this case.
