Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Putnam, driver under investigation

PUTNAM — A pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck Wednesday morning while crossing Kennedy Drive, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

The Putnam Police Department reported that at about 8:30 a.m., they received an emergency call regarding a collision at the intersection of Kennedy Drive and Bridge Street involving a pedestrian.

According to the police, Nicholas Sabitoni, 25, of Lincoln, RI, was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado and attempting a left turn from Riverfront Commons Plaza onto Kennedy Drive when he struck Robert Johnson, 66, of Putnam.

Johnson was using the marked crosswalk at the time of the incident.

Emergency responders transported Johnson to Day Kimball Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The Putnam Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and are asking any witnesses to come forward.
