KINGSTON — Kingston Police Department took swift action today after students at a local school were overheard discussing weapons and a potential threat to school safety during lunchtime.

Authorities were promptly alerted by vigilant individuals, enabling the school administration to quickly identify and confront the students involved in the concerning conversation.

In response to the incident, the school, in collaboration with the Kingston Police Department (KPD), issued a “Stay Put” order as a precautionary measure.

During the “Stay Put,” students continued their classroom instruction without interruption, but movement through hallways was restricted to ensure safety while a thorough search was conducted.

The KPD, assisted by neighboring law enforcement agencies and a specialized ballistics and explosives detection canine team, examined the school building and surrounding areas.

After completing their search, the police confirmed that no dangerous items were found on the premises.

Following the all-clear from law enforcement, the “Stay Put” directive was lifted, and the school returned to its regular schedule.

School officials expressed their gratitude to the staff and students for their cooperation during the incident and encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to reach out to the administration team or the School Resource Officer.
