Worker killed by front-end loader at Dayton Sand and Gravel

DAYTON — Maine State Police are investigating a workplace fatality that occurred Monday at Dayton Sand and Gravel, where a worker was struck and killed by a front-end loader.

At approximately 12:03 p.m., troopers from the Maine State Police – Southern Field Troop responded to a report of an accident at the gravel company.

Cory Maddox, a 43-year-old worker from East Waterboro, was walking across the yard when he was hit by the bucket of the front-end loader.

Despite resuscitation efforts, Maddox was pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the loader was another employee working at the time of the incident.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has taken over the investigation.

Authorities have stated that there is no indication of criminal activity related to the accident.

The Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by the York County Sheriff’s Department, Wells Police Department, Goodwins Mills Fire and Rescue, Mine Safety and Health Administration, and OSHA.
