Boston police investigate fatal shooting in Jamaica Plain, arrest one

BOSTON — At about 9:22 p.m., on Sept. 23, officers from the Boston Police Department’s District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a Shot Spotter activation and reports of gunfire at 277 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was quickly transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During the investigation, police recovered several firearms at the scene.

Additional officers pursued a suspect, identified as 19-year-old Edwin Vinales of Boston, who had discarded a firearm.

Vinales was apprehended and found to be in possession of a semi-automatic firearm with an extended magazine capable of holding over ten rounds.

Vinales was arrested and faces arraignment in Roxbury District Court on charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

The Homicide Unit of the Boston Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
