WATERBURY — A 13-year-old boy was arrested late last night after Waterbury Police Department (WPD) officers investigated a threatening social media post directed at several public schools in the city.

The WPD received information about the post at 11:23 p.m. and quickly identified the juvenile as the suspected author.

After assessing the situation, authorities determined the threat was non-credible.

Despite this, the young male was taken into custody and faced charges of Breach of Peace and Threatening in the 2nd Degree.

In a statement, the WPD emphasized the importance of vigilance and community cooperation. “We take all threats seriously to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community,” the department said. “If you see something suspicious, report it immediately! Your safety is our priority.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of irresponsible social media use and the importance of prompt reporting in maintaining the security of educational environments.

The WPD continues to encourage anyone with information on suspicious activities to come forward to help keep the community safe.
