PLYMOUTH — A Plymouth woman was arrested and faces several charges following a standoff with law enforcement on Sept. 20.

At 5:20 p.m., the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a distress call about a suicidal woman who had allegedly threatened another person with a firearm.

The incident escalated into a standoff after the other individual managed to disarm the woman, who remained inside the residence while others evacuated.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, along with the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Penobscot County Criminal Investigation Division, were called to the scene.

Despite numerous attempts by crisis negotiators to engage with the woman, she refused to communicate.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Evelyn Melanson, 66, as well as a search warrant for the property.

The search expanded and eventually led officers to a camper where Melanson was found.

Melanson was taken into custody without further incident and has been charged with Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class C Felony, and two counts of Domestic Violence Assault and Domestic Violence Reckless Conduct, both Class D Misdemeanors.
