Chicopee traffic stop uncovers illegal firearms, leads to arrest

CHICOPEE — A routine traffic stop early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of a man on multiple firearm charges, according to Chicopee Police Department.

At approximately 12:07 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle traveling 41 mph in a 25 mph zone on the 900 block of Chicopee Street.

After initiating a stop on Bolduc Lane, the officer reported suspicious movements by the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Travis Jackson of Indian Orchard.

Backup officers arrived as Jackson was seen reaching under his seat.

Upon being asked to exit the vehicle, a loaded Glock 9mm handgun without a visible serial number was discovered between the driver’s seat and center console.

Jackson was unable to provide a License to Carry.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s registration had expired.

Jackson now faces charges including possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, defacing a firearm serial number, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, speeding, and carrying a firearm without a license.
