BARNSTABLE — A Hyannis man was taken into custody for a series of motor vehicle break-ins, the Barnstable Police Department announced Friday.
Jakari Sylvia, 19, faces charges related to the break-ins and attempted break-ins of 21 motor vehicles in the Hyannis area.
The arrest occurred on Sept. 19, while Sylvia was out on personal recognizance following similar charges in July, where he was accused of targeting 18 vehicles.
Barnstable Police had continued to receive reports of vehicle burglaries and thefts following Sylvia’s initial release.
Intensive investigations by detectives and patrol officers, which included evidence collected from crime scenes and public tips, led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Sylvia.
The coordinated efforts of the Detective Unit, Patrol Evening Shift, Patrol Midnight Shift, and K-9 Unit resulted in Sylvia’s arrest at his residence.
A subsequent search warrant executed at his home led to the recovery of stolen property linked to the vehicle break-ins.
Sylvia was arraigned on Sept. 20 at Barnstable District Court on multiple charges, including attempted and completed motor vehicle breaks, larceny from a motor vehicle, and three counts of motor vehicle theft.
Since July, he has been connected to a total of 39 vehicle incidents.
The court ordered Sylvia held on $2,250 bail with GPS monitoring and a curfew if bail is posted.
