Rhode Island State Police make multiple overnight arrests, fugitive charges

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island State Police conducted several arrests for various offenses including driving under the influence and fugitive charges from Friday night into early Saturday morning.

At 11:31 p.m., Felix J. Cortez, age 26, of Lincoln, was arrested as a fugitive from justice on charges of a court order violation from the Attleboro, Massachusetts Police Department.

The arrest was made after a vehicle stop on Westminster Street in Providence.

Following his arraignment at Lincoln Woods Barracks, Cortez was transferred to the Adult Correctional Institution Intake Center.

Early Saturday, at 1:49 a.m., Juan Melgar, age 42, from Willimantic, Connecticut, was apprehended on an affidavit and arrest warrant for aggravated assault issued by the Central Falls Police Department.

The arrest followed a motor vehicle stop on Harrison Street in Pawtucket.

Melgar was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and handed over to the Central Falls Police Department.

At 2:53 a.m., Anthony R. Dejesus, age 23, of Bellingham, Massachusetts, was arrested for driving under the influence with a BAC between .10 and .15, and destruction of public property.

This followed a response to a disabled vehicle on Route 6 in Providence.

Dejesus’s BAC was recorded at .129 and .128 during Phase I and Phase II testing, respectively.

He was processed, arraigned, and released into the custody of a responsible adult pending a future court appearance at the Sixth Division District Court.

Lastly, at 3:29 a.m., Willian Aponte Azuaje, age 34, of Providence, was arrested on an affidavit and arrest warrant for domestic felony assault from the Providence Police Department.

This was the result of a vehicle stop on Smith Street in Providence.

After processing at Lincoln Woods Barracks, Aponte Azuaje was turned over to the Providence Police Department.
