SHAFTSBURY — Vermont State Police are reaching out to the public for assistance in locating the owner of items found abandoned on US RT 7 on Sept. 5.

At around 5:16 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a pull-off near mile marker 18/4 after receiving reports of suspicious items, including what was initially thought to be a bloodstained blanket and a large knife.

Upon arrival and investigation, the authorities determined that the blanket and knife were not covered in blood.

The items were subsequently collected and secured at the Vermont State Police Barracks in Shaftsbury.

Despite being in state custody for over two weeks, the belongings remain unclaimed as of Sept. 19.

State Police are urging anyone with information regarding the ownership of these items to get in touch with the Shaftsbury Barracks.

Arrangements will be made to return the possessions to their rightful owner upon identification.
