MORRISVILLE — Vermont State Police, in conjunction with the Morristown Police Department, have apprehended a suspect for the September 1993 murder of 42-year-old Cheryl Peters.
A Lamoille County grand jury indicted Carroll Peters, 70, the victim’s estranged husband, on a charge of first-degree murder.
Investigators determined that Carroll Peters shot Cheryl Peters in the head at her residence, where her body was discovered on Sept. 2, 1993.
After a lengthy 31-year investigation, authorities arrested Carroll Peters on Thursday and took him to the Morristown Police Department for processing.
He is currently being held in prison without bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Hyde Park.

The Vermont State Police acknowledged the cooperation of the Lamoille County State’s Attorney’s Office and Morristown police.
