WORCESTER — Worcester Police officers on the Downtown Footbeat arrested a man suspected of drug trafficking on the Worcester common on Sept. 18.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., officers were performing drug enforcement activities when they noticed a male engaging in what appeared to be drug sales.

The individual, later identified as 20-year-old Adonny Aviles of Montreal St., seemed to be distributing small white rocks, believed to be crack cocaine, to several people.

Following the exchanges, Aviles was observed collecting paper currency and handing it over to another person.

Officers intervened and detained Aviles at the WRTA bus stop on Franklin St. During the stop, they discovered a significant quantity of what is thought to be crack cocaine and a smaller amount of a substance suspected to be fentanyl.

Aviles was taken into custody and has since been charged with multiple drug-related offenses, including Trafficking in a Class B Substance 18-36 Grams (crack cocaine), Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Class A Substance with Intent to Distribute (fentanyl), and Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance Law.

He also faces charges for Intimidation of a Witness after allegedly threatening one of the arresting officers.

The Worcester Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
