ST. JOHNSBURY — While patrolling on Sept. 18, officers from the St. Johnsbury Police Department apprehended 42-year-old George E.

Phelps, who was wanted on an active in-state arrest warrant.

Phelps, a resident of St. Johnsbury, was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Northeast Correctional Facility due to an inability to post the required $500 bail.

During processing, Phelps was also cited for an earlier incident that occurred on Sept. 13, where he was allegedly involved in retail theft and unlawful trespass.

According to police reports, Phelps was caught on surveillance footage shoplifting from a local convenience store.
