BRANFORD — Three individuals have been apprehended by the Branford Police Department for their alleged involvement in a severe assault and torture case that occurred on Sept. 1.
According to authorities, the suspects lured the victim to a secluded wooded area where they were held captive and subjected to extreme violence for about three hours.
The victim suffered from an array of torturous acts, including being beaten, slashed, burned, pistol-whipped, and sexually assaulted, resulting in significant injuries.
The police were alerted to the crime after a video partially documenting the incident surfaced.
Investigators were able to identify the location and later found the victim receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Following a detailed investigation, arrest warrants were issued, resulting in the detention of all suspects without further incident.
Avante Ryan, 22, of Hartford, faces numerous charges including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree assault, cruelty to persons, first-degree robbery, criminal use of a firearm, and first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, among others.
Ryan, whose bond is set at $1 million, is scheduled for arraignment at GA-23, New Haven Court tomorrow morning.
Two 17-year-old juveniles were also charged with crimes similar to Ryan’s, each being held on a $1 million bond.
The Branford Police Department has stated that the investigation indicates this was an isolated incident and has expressed appreciation for the community’s assistance.
Acknowledgements were also extended to the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, the Hartford Police Department, and the Judicial Marshals at Hartford Superior Court for their support in the case.
