CLINTON — Clinton Police Department issued a scam alert Monday after receiving multiple reports of a caller posing as a Worcester County Sheriff’s Department employee.

Victims have reported receiving calls on their cell phones from an individual claiming they missed a court date or summons.

The Clinton Police confirmed with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department that these calls are fraudulent and have also been reported to the sheriff’s department.

Authorities are cautioning residents to be vigilant and not to share personal information with unknown callers.

The police remind the public that legitimate law enforcement agencies do not typically contact individuals by phone to discuss missed court dates or legal summons.

Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to report it to the Clinton Police Department.

The investigation into these scam calls is ongoing.
