Brunswick student on E-bike struck by car, sustains minor injuries

BRUNSWICK — A student was hit by a car while riding an E-bike across a crosswalk in front of Brunswick Jr.

High School early Wednesday morning, police said.

The Brunswick Police Department reported to the scene at 7:00 a.m. on Sept. 18 after receiving a call about the incident.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Columbia Ave when the collision occurred.

The student was riding southbound on the trail behind Crimmins Field and attempted to cross Columbia Ave in the crosswalk.

Officers on the scene determined that the student was struck while trying to navigate the crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped to provide assistance.

Brunswick Fire and Rescue evaluated the student, who was then released to a parent with minor injuries.

Investigators have ruled out speed as a contributing factor in the crash.

The crossing, marked with two stop signs and a pedestrian-activated yellow flashing signal, indicates that the safety measures in place were not utilized at the time of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle is not being faulted for the incident.

Following the crash, Brunswick Police Department’s School Resource Officers are collaborating with the administration of Brunswick Jr.

High School to promote safe bicycling habits among students.

Measures to increase visibility at the accident location are also being considered.
