SPRINGFIELD — The Vermont State Police have launched an investigation into the death of Gary L.

Partridge, 54, after he was pronounced dead late Tuesday night at Springfield Hospital.

Partridge, a resident of Bennington and Chicopee, Massachusetts, had been serving time at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield.

He had been in custody since 2014 on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and violation of conditions of release.

The Department of Corrections reported Partridge’s health emergency to state police around 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 17, following his transfer to the hospital approximately an hour earlier due to his deteriorating medical condition.

He was declared dead at 10:53 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled at the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington to ascertain the exact cause and manner of Partridge’s death.

Initial reports suggest that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

In line with procedures for in-custody deaths, a detective from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations was dispatched to the hospital to commence the inquiry.
