FAIR HAVEN — A local man was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of driving under the influence after police received multiple complaints about his driving behavior.

Steven R. Burke, 41, of Fair Haven, was taken into custody on Sept. 15 after officers responded to reports of a vehicle driving erratically and on sidewalks around Washington Street.

The Fair Haven Police Department said they stopped Burke at 12:15 a.m. and noticed signs of alcohol impairment during their interaction.

Senior Patrol Officer Cheri McDermott administered field sobriety exercises, which Burke failed.

A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed his blood alcohol content (BAC) to be .173, more than twice the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle.

Burke was arrested and later released with an order to appear in Rutland District Court on a date to be determined.
