Newport Center home engulfed in fire, residents escape with minor injuries

NEWPORT — A structure fire on Vermont Route 100 in Newport Center required a response from Vermont State Police early Saturday to assist with traffic control as a single-family home was fully engulfed in flames.

The fire, reported at approximately 12:44 a.m., prompted an evacuation of the residence, with all occupants able to exit safely.

They were transported to North Country Hospital by Newport Ambulance Service with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities closed Vermont Route 100 between Niles Road and Route 14 to manage the situation.

Fire departments from Troy, North Troy, and Lowell were also on scene to combat the fire, while the Newport Center Highway Department helped with road closure signage.

The affected section of Vermont Route 100 remained closed to traffic.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and officials will provide updates when more information becomes available.
