MANSFIELD — Police responded to reports of shots fired near a hotel in Mansfield on Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a suspect in a neighboring town.

The Mansfield Police Department arrived at the Red Roof Inn on Forbes Boulevard around 3:42 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2024, after receiving calls about gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, Mansfield officers encountered law enforcement from another jurisdiction who had been conducting a drug investigation.

Before Mansfield police arrived, the subject of the investigation attempted to flee in a black BMW, prompting an officer to fire a single shot at the vehicle.

The suspect’s car was later located in North Attleboro, where the individual was taken into custody.

Authorities did not immediately release the suspect’s identity or specify charges.

Police assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety.

The scene at the hotel has been secured.
