Ossipee man held without bail on domestic violence charges

OSSIPEE — A local man faces multiple domestic violence charges following an altercation on Bayle Mountain Road, authorities said Tuesday.

Joseph Allen Souza Jr. of Ossipee was arrested Monday at approximately 8:13 p.m. after police responded to several 911 calls reporting two men fighting.

Souza was charged with second-degree assault – strangulation, a Class B felony; criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, also a Class B felony; and multiple counts of simple assault, Class A misdemeanors.

Officer Carrie Blackwood of the Ossipee Police Department and Deputy Jaclyn Cortese of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene.

Units from New Hampshire State Police Troop E Barracks, Effingham Police Department, and Madison Police Department provided assistance.

Following his arrest, Souza was transported to Carroll County Jail and held without bail pending arraignment.

On Tuesday at 1:15 p.m., Souza appeared in Ossipee District Court where Judge Elizabeth Paine ordered him to remain in custody without bail on preventative detention pending future court proceedings.

The Ossipee Police Department acknowledged the support of mutual aid partners, Action Ambulance, and West Ossipee Fire Department for their response and evaluation of those involved.

The investigation remains ongoing.
