Drug trafficking and fugitive arrests in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island law enforcement agencies made several arrests this week, including a major drug bust and the apprehension of a fugitive wanted in Massachusetts.

On Sept. 11, members of the HIDTA Task Force and Lincoln Barracks arrested Eduardo Ballista, 36, of Providence, on multiple drug charges.

Ballista faces counts of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, cocaine, and additional fentanyl.

The following day, the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Shayne E. McClair, 33, of Woonsocket.

McClair was wanted in Massachusetts for a parole/probation violation related to an aggravated assault with a gun charge.

He also faces charges of resisting arrest and obstruction.

In separate incidents on Sept. 12, the Auto Theft Unit arrested two women on insurance fraud charges.

Jailene Muniz Tosado, 32, of Providence, and Yanessa Diaz, 24, of West Warwick, were both arraigned and released pending future court dates.

Ballista was processed at the Lincoln Barracks and arraigned in Sixth District Court.

McClair was processed at the Lincoln Barracks and arraigned in Providence County District Court.
