Scituate police increase patrols after robocall threat

1 min read

SCITUATE — The Scituate Police Department announced increased patrols around local schools Tuesday following an unsubstantiated robocall threat targeting Middletown and other Rhode Island communities.

Officials said the threat was thoroughly investigated in coordination with other law enforcement agencies and deemed not credible.

However, the department decided to enhance its presence near schools as a precautionary measure.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Scituate Police Department will be increasing patrols in the areas surrounding all schools,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities did not provide specific details about the nature of the threat or which other Rhode Island communities were targeted.

The police department thanked the public for their understanding and continued support as they work to ensure community safety.
