CLAREMONT — A routine traffic stop turned into a multi-town pursuit early Tuesday morning, ending with the arrest of a New Hampshire man on Coombs Bridge in Winchester.
Authorities say the Claremont Police Department’s night shift attempted to stop a vehicle on Summer Street at approximately 12:17 a.m., but the driver, later identified as 41-year-old Daniel O’Donnell of Swanzey, failed to comply.
The chase proceeded through several towns, including Claremont, Charlestown, Walpole, Westmoreland, Keene, Swanzey, and Winchester.
Multiple law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit or provided assistance.
Among them were the Charlestown Police Department, Bellows Falls Police Department, Walpole Police Department, Keene Police Department, Swanzey Police Department, Winchester Police Department, and New Hampshire State Police-Troop C.
Officers deployed spike strips at various locations in an effort to halt the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful until the chase reached Westmoreland and Keene, where three of the vehicle’s tires were punctured.
The car continued to operate on its rims until it was unable to cross Coombs Bridge, where the pursuit concluded.
O’Donnell was taken into custody and has been charged with multiple offenses, including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled drug, disobeying an officer, resisting arrest, DUI, and transporting drugs in a motor vehicle.
He was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a violation of probation at the time of the incident.
The investigation remains active, and authorities anticipate that additional charges will be filed against O’Donnell.
