BARNSTEAD — A juvenile was seriously injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash on private property in Barnstead on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred around noon when the minor, riding an ATV down a gravel slope on John Brown Road, lost control and collided with a rock wall, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers.
The young operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported by emergency medical services to Concord Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the cause of the crash was due to operator inexperience.
Barnstead Police Department and local EMS supported conservation officers at the scene.
New Hampshire Fish and Game issued a safety reminder following the incident, stressing the importance of minors being accompanied by a licensed adult over 18 when riding ATVs.
They also emphasized the necessity of helmets and safety gear for riders and passengers under the age of 18.
