STAMFORD — A high school student was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening to “shoot up the school” in a snap on Snapchat, according to the Stamford Police Department.
The FBI alerted local authorities at 2 p.m. that a shooting threat had been made via the social media app.
Investigators traced the phone number associated with the Snapchat account to a resident of Stamford and determined that the phone was located at Stamford High School.
Detectives, with assistance from the School Resource Officer and patrol officers, swiftly located and arrested the student within the school premises.
No weapon was found at the school.
After the arrest, police also searched two residences linked to the student, following conversations with her parents.
These searches did not yield any weapons.
The student, whose name has not been released, faces charges of threatening in the first degree and breach of peace in the first degree.
She was taken to the police headquarters and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 13.
The investigation remains active, with authorities seeking additional information from Snapchat’s parent company, Snap Inc.
The suspect is reported to be cooperating with the investigation.
