Task force arrests suspect in fatal assault case in Providence

PROVIDENCE — Members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested a 50-year-old man on Tuesday in connection with a felony assault that resulted in death, according to authorities.

Dwayne Gibson of 171 Narragansett Avenue was taken into custody without incident on Sept. 3 on an affidavit and arrest warrant issued by the Providence Police Department.

Major Kenneth M. Moriarty, Detective Commander, confirmed that Gibson was turned over to the Providence Police following the arrest.

The task force, which is composed of several law enforcement agencies, specializes in locating and apprehending violent fugitives.

Further details about the incident that led to the assault charge were not immediately available.
