LANESBOROUGH — A Pittsfield man in his 70s died Sunday after his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Berkshire Mall Road shortly after noon, officials said.
The crash occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on the Route 7/Route 8 connector near the Berkshire Mall, according to Julia Sabourin, spokesperson for the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.
Sabourin said the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Lanesborough Ambulance at 12:39 p.m. The victim’s identity was not released Sunday night.
The SUV driver was not seriously injured but was interviewed by police, Sabourin said.
The SUV sustained significant damage in the collision.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Lanesborough Police, Lanesborough Ambulance, Lanesborough Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office, and the State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
The District Attorney’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, Sabourin said.
