AUGUSTA — Nearly half a century after the disappearance of 4-year-old Kurt Newton, Maine State Police continue to seek information from the public in an effort to solve the enduring mystery.
Kurt Newton was last seen on Aug. 31, 1975, at a campground in Chain of Ponds, located near the Canadian border in Northern Franklin County.
He had been enjoying a camping trip with his family when he vanished.
Despite extensive search operations involving both civilians and law enforcement, no trace of the boy was ever found.
Authorities have not given up hope and are asking anyone with information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to come forward.
The Maine State Police, Major Crimes Unit-South, is handling the investigation.
