Two arrested in armed Facebook Marketplace robbery in Shelton

SHELTON — Police arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery stemming from a Facebook Marketplace transaction on Aug. 29.

Wazim Ali Hariprashad, 19, and Caroline Gabriela Ruiz-Robinson, 18, both of Bridgeport, were taken into custody following a traffic stop shortly after the incident, which occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Perry Hill Road.

The victim reported meeting the suspects to purchase Air Jordan sneakers.

During the transaction, a disagreement over cost led to the male suspect allegedly brandishing a handgun before fleeing in a silver SUV with a paper license plate.

Officer Dinihanian spotted a vehicle matching the description on Bridgeport Avenue and conducted a traffic stop on Route 8 Northbound.

Police recovered a loaded stolen firearm and items related to the sale from the vehicle.

Hariprashad faces charges including first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, theft of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

He is being held on $100,000 bond and is due in Derby Superior Court on Aug. 30.

Ruiz-Robinson was charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery.

She posted a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16.
