Drug bust nets $100,000 worth of cocaine, fentanyl in Maine

PALMYRA — A drug raid in central Maine resulted in the seizure of approximately $100,000 worth of illegal narcotics and the arrest of a Massachusetts man, authorities said Friday.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division executed a search warrant Thursday in Palmyra, confiscating about 1,000 grams of cocaine and a large quantity of suspected fentanyl.

Kasiem Smith, 29, of Worcester, Massachusetts, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A felony.

Officials also charged Smith with criminal simulation, a Class C felony, for possessing an altered firearm with its serial numbers removed.

Additionally, he faces a charge of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, another Class C felony.

The sheriff’s office did not provide details on what led to the investigation or the circumstances surrounding Smith’s arrest.

Authorities estimate the street value of the seized drugs at approximately $100,000.

The case remains under investigation, and officials have not announced whether they expect additional arrests.
