Springfield police seize gun with 50-round magazine, arrest repeat offender

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Department’s C3 Unit apprehended a repeat offender and confiscated a loaded firearm equipped with a 50-round magazine on Aug. 23 after a traffic violation escalated into a significant drug and weapons bust.

At around 6:15 p.m., C3 officers witnessed a vehicle run a stop sign and speed on Wilcox Street.

After attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Alexander Negron, accelerated before getting stuck in traffic and eventually pulling over near exit 6 on I-91 North.

Negron, 38, of Chicopee, was taken into custody.

A search of his vehicle led to the discovery of a concealed “Ghost Gun” under the driver’s seat, more than $1500 in cash, sixty bags of suspected heroin, and 14 bags of crack-cocaine.

An additional 200 bags of heroin were also seized from the vehicle.

The recovered crack-cocaine amounted to roughly 40 grams.

Negron’s criminal history includes prior convictions for heroin distribution and two instances of assault and battery on a police officer.

Negron faces multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, possession of a large capacity firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, cocaine trafficking between 36-100 grams, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug – subsequent offense, failure to stop for police, marked lanes violation, and failure to stop/yield.
