1 min read

SALEM — The Salem Police Department is issuing a scam alert to the community after reports emerged that an individual is impersonating a police officer to solicit donations fraudulently.

Authorities said Monday that the scammer has been contacting local residents claiming to represent the Salem Police Department and asking for donations.

The department emphasized that it is not currently seeking donations for any cause and would never request gift cards, vouchers, money orders, or similar items.

Residents are urged to be vigilant and skeptical of unsolicited calls asking for money.

The police advise anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately and contact the local Police Department to verify the authenticity of any charity or donation request.

The Salem Police Department is asking the public to share this information with friends and family to prevent others from falling victim to this scam.
